Munir Chowdhury advised engineers to use specialized software increasingly
Mohammad Munir Chowdhury, former Director General of National Science and Technology Museum, has advised the engineers of the organization to use specialized software instead of focusing or spending more on the office decoration or furniture of the engineers to catch corruption in the power sector. As a guest speaker at a session of the company's engineers at the training academy of Dhaka Power Distribution Company on Wednesday, he also gave a strong speech against bureaucratic unethical intervention to save the companies. In his speech, Munir Chowdhury proposed some reform measures to reduce corruption, wastage and inequality in the power sector to build a new Bangladesh.
In a session addressed to the engineers, he said, “Board meeting fees of power generation and distribution companies are very high, which is a waste of money. With big bosses benefiting, board meeting honorariums and entertainment costs must be reduced. Besides, a huge amount of money is being wasted in the name of decorating the offices of the officers, which is affecting the company's profits. These money should be saved and used for hospitals and welfare purposes.
Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) Superintendent Abdur Razzak, Executive Engineer Badrul Alam and others were present at the event. 30 field level engineers of the company participated.
Munir Chowdhury, asking why officials of the ministry should go for pre-shipment inspection in case of import of parts of the company, said that no non-technical person of the ministry can be taken on the pre-shipment visit except the concerned officials and engineers of the company. It is highly unethical for ministry officials to use company vehicles except for strictly essential official duties. Company officials cannot open their mouths against ministry officials against reckless driving. Munir Chowdhury said that he had taken a very strong stand against these injustices during his tenure at DPDC. Even recently, he took a stand against illegal pre-shipment visits by the chairman of DPDC Dr. Ahmed Kaukaus (later Power Secretary and Chief Secretary) to the US.
Munir Chowdhury also said, 'Institutions including DPDC must be freed from the unwanted and unfair interference of the ministry. Institutions should be saved from the colonial behavior of bureaucrats. This is how state management should be reformed. Every institution should be allowed to run with its own law and identity, if there is any irregularity then the ministry will intervene. To prevent electricity theft and wastage, regular task force operations with honest and skilled engineers should be conducted to increase the revenue of the organization. He also said that electricity is being stolen by installing various commercial relays and using sensors in meters. Even, power is being stolen by illegally increasing the diameter of the country's pipelines by taking large bribes at the highest levels of some industrial establishments. To catch these crimes, engineers must use modern technology along with sophisticated software. Everyone should work honestly to stop theft, corruption and wastage in electricity and energy sector. Allah Ta'ala has shown the signs of what the consequences of corruption and violation of limits can be.
